How to Get Rid of Flea without Harmful Chemical

Fleas must be your biggest enemy if you are an animal lover and have pets at home. Don't be mistaken thinking fleas can only bite your beloved pets; they can bite you as well. And not only that, flea lays their egg in your expensive furniture, carpet, or anywhere they can reach. You will surprise to know that fleas can jump 295 across and 160 feet high.

Flea's primary goal is to bite your pets. Seeing your lovely pets troubled by these little pests is even more irritating. Flea bites are not as painful as a wasp, or some other insects but itchiness and swelling will occur around the bitten area.

Chemical Free Flea Remedies

1. Essential Oil

buy essential oil

Some essential oils like Citronella, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Tea Tree oil are excellent repellents against flea problems. However, it is recommended not to use any essential oil directly; dilute a few drops of essential oil in water and spray them directly on your pest. It will keep fleas away from your pest.

2. Lemon Bath

The lemon bath is an absolute way to treat flea problems and keep your pets smelling fresh. Dilute half a cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice into two cups of water and then add regular shampoo, which you use for your pet giving baths to your loved pets. This solution is considered a good flea treatment.

3. Neem oil and Coconut oil

Is there anything that coconut oil or neem oil can't do? Neem oil has been known as a natural insect repellent for a long. You can use neem oil by mixing it in your dogs' shampoo, or you also can use it by diluting it well to water and making your spray. In contrast, you can apply coconut oil to your pet's skin which will repel fleas.

4. Herbal flea spray

Nothing works better than an herbal solution when searching for a chemical-free solution. This remedy will be non-toxic as well as can be made by the products which are available nearby.

To make the herbal spray, mix 4 liters of vinegar or apple cider vinegar, 2 liters of water, 500 ml of lemon juice, and 250 ml of witch hazel and add them to the spray bottle. Quantity can be varied according to how many solutions you want to make.

5. Vacuum or Baking soda

Vacuuming is one of the best options to get rid of fleas and clean your home. Although fleas can clean only by vacuuming but with the use of baking soda, results are even more remarkable.

You must be curious to know how to use baking soda with a vacuum cleaner; all you need to do is sprinkle the baking soda on the carpet and furniture and rub it with the brush. After that, vacuum your house carefully.

6. Salt

Just like baking soda, you can also use salt. Salt is an excellent dehydrating substance; if the salt is finely ground, it will work even better. Sprinkle salt all over the carpet in each room, leave it for 1-2 days, then vacuum the place.

7. Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous earth is the microscopic remains of fossilized algae. It is a beautiful powder and utterly non-toxic to humans and toxic enough for fleas to kill them. It doesn't contain any chemical diatomaceous earthworks in the dehydration process. Consumption of this fine powder will cause dehydration in their body and eventually kill them.

Sprinkle this all over the area where you suspected fleas earlier, and leave it for at least two days to see its magic.

You must be thinking, when salt does the same process, then what is the need to use diatomaceous earth? The reason is that some people find it very bad or equal to sin if salt comes under your feet.

Note: Although Diatomaceous earth is natural still, it is recommended to use it with care and buy the excellent quality of this as it can irritate or burn your eyes.

8. Flea repelling plants

The last way I have used and want to tell you is to use some specific plant. List out some specific plants which keep these kinds of insects away. Some particular plants contain some oil, compound, or chemicals that fleas hate or try to avoid coming in contact with.

Some of them are:

  • Lavender
  • Pennyroyal
  • Spearmint

Getting rid of a flea is difficult, but it becomes even more irritating if they return after getting rid of it. To avoid this situation, use some precautionary techniques after getting rid of the problem.
