
Insects are a big threat to our precious plants. Outside plants are more exposed to them as insects can easily reach them. When you need to deal with pests it’s necessary to know what you are dealing with.
Aphids are the most common pest that sticks to our plants. They especially love to eat newly grown buds or leaves. They can be identified by a cluster of green, brown, and black on the left or twig. Multiple techniques are used to control insect infestation. But taking precautions even before their cause is the best solution.
The insects can be controlled by growing flower plants that encourage beneficial pests like a ladybug. If you are already dealing with infestation insecticide or other solutions need to be used.
Natural pesticides to deal with garden insects
It is best practice to avoid an infestation in the first place by keeping an eye on plants. Eliminating the problem in the early stages will be easier to resolve the problem fast. The use of organic pesticides will provide effective and safe results.
Vegetable oil and soap mixture
The natural solution eliminates the root cause of the problem, unlike chemicals. Chemicals do solve the problem fast but with a lot of side effects on plant health and our health.
Prepare the solution by mixing 1 cup of vegetable oil and 1 spoonful of liquid soap. Stir the solution well and it is ready to use. Oil will stick to the pest body as a coating and block the oxygen for them. It will lead to their termination.
Neem oil
Neem oil is a bio-pesticide that provides ultimate results with great benefits. Neem oil prevents pests from feeding the leaves and stems. The use of neem oil is a safe and reliable option, it is an eco-friendly and non-toxic option.
Neem oil can be used directly or made sprayed by diluting neem oil and water.
Note – make sure to do the patch test before spraying the solution on the complete plant.
Soap spray to keep insects at bay
Homemade soap spray is the easiest recipe to control the insects in the garden. It is effective against aphids, mites, and many other insects. To prepare the soap sprays dilute two spoonfuls of liquid soap with 100ml of water. Shake the solution well and it is all ready to use.
Chili pepper spray
The spray made by chili pepper is a great alternative to chemical insecticides. Dilute one tablespoon of chili powder with a quart of water and a few drops of liquid soap to make the pepper spray. Mix the solution well and fill the spray bottle with it.
Spray the solution directly on plant leaves and affected plants. Use the solution with care as chili pepper can irritate the skin if come in contact.
Diatomaceous earth
Diatomaceous earth is the result of fossilized algae. It is the best solution for those who want a safe and non-toxic formula to eliminate the pest problem. Diatomaceous earth kills the pests by dehydration method. It draws moisture from insect skeletons and leads them to death.
If you notice the pests in your garden take the action immediately. Delay in taking action will only result in damage to your precious plants. And pests will become hard to deal with as time goes by.
