Pesticides are used to control pests in agriculture. They kill the pests but can harm humans, animals, and the environment. Continuing pesticide use will also reduce the plant's natural power to deal with insects and other problems.
Organic solutions are an alternative way to treat pests without any harmful results. One aim of using the organic solution is to spread awareness of the risks of using chemicals. When we think, sometimes it feels like pests can't be controlled without chemicals. And it's always worth using natural solutions.
IPM management
IPM (Integrated Pest Management) includes an organic or natural way to deal with pests. It is a practice for organic pest control. Cultural control, biological control, and mechanical control are part of IPM.
Cultural control includes the growth of plants that helps in pest control and gardening technique. Pest-resistant plants are the safest and easiest solution to deal with pests. Managing water and soil fertility can restrict pests from developing and will provide the optimal condition for the plant to grow.
Biological control uses beneficial pests to control harmful insects. It mainly includes parasites and predatory problems. On the other hand, mechanical control consists of traps to bay harmful insects from the garden.
Use of natural products
There are some conditions where the use of pest control agents becomes necessary. In this condition, natural pesticides are a big help in controlling the pest safely.
Neem spray
Neem spray is one of the most effective biopesticides that show significant results. Neem has been used for its medicinal properties. In addition, its bitter taste and strong odor keep the pests away. But this herb is safe and non-toxic for birds, plants, and humans.
Make the neem spray dilute a few drops of the neem oil in water. Also, add a few drops of liquid soap for better results (optional). Mix the solution well and fill the spray bottle with it.
Note: Freshly made spray shows the best result.
Onion and garlic spray
Soak one clove of garlic and a medium-sized onion in water. Let it rest for a while, and add a teaspoon of pepper and a few drops of liquid soap. Spray the solution on the plant to protect them from pest infestation.
Note – do the patch test before using any solution on the complete plant.
Eucalyptus essential oil
A strong odor of this essential oil keeps the pests away from the plants. Make the spray by diluting eucalyptus essential oil in water. Then, spray this solution on the plants and notice the difference yourself. Use this solution regularly for the best results.
Plant protector
Plant protector is an alternative solution to pesticides for controlling pests. It protects the plant from leaf-feeding caterpillars, worms, and other insects. In addition, it leaves no residual effect on plants and is completely safe for plants, birds, humans, and the environment.
Salt spray
It is a multitasking organic alternative to a pesticide that keeps the insects at bay and helps the plant increase nutrient absorption. Stir the salt in water and spray this solution on plants. Also, sprinkle the salt around plants to get the best result.
