Ant is a kind of pest that come in groups or trails of many. If you can see one ant wondering there is more likely to be many more ants around hiding. And pest infestation in the house means nuisance and urge to terminate them immediately.
However many solutions involve the use of chemicals to treat insects problem. But some may or some may not aware of the fact how hazardous chemical pesticides can be for health. The alternative and 100% effective solution for pests is the use of organic pesticides.
Organic pesticides are developed using plant extract and natural substances. So they don’t possess any side effects on human health. Let’s learn about some most effective natural/organic solutions to terminate the ant problem.
Effective ways to repel and eliminate ants
Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous earth is a natural substance made of fossilized remains of the organism (aquatic).
Diatomaceous earth works on the dehydration process. It absorbs the oil from ants' (pest) skeleton which leads to killing them. You just need to wrinkle the powder on the area where you see ants.
Note – Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder that can go inside with breathing so use the product carefully. And make sure to buy the food grade diatomaceous earth.
Vinegar or white vinegar
Vinegar is a natural substance to terminate ant problems. Along with being a natural pest, terminator vinegar is a natural cleaning agent.
Mix an equal amount of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. And spray the solution directly on the ants to eliminate them.
Essential oil to repel ants
Essential oil like peppermint, lemon eucalyptus, neem, and tea tree essential oil is great repellents to terminate the ants and many other bugs. The essential oil comes in concentrated form so they can't be used directly instead you need to mix them with something to use them.
In the case of peppermint essential oil add 10 – 20 drops of oil with two cups of water to prepare the solution.
On the other hand considering the strong effect of tea tree essential oil, dilution of 5 – 10 drops of essential oil with 2 cups of water will be more than enough to eliminate ants. If the scent of the solution is not tolerable for you use the mixture of tea tree, peppermint essential oil, and water.
Spray the solution prepared by the above two methods directly on the infested area.
Note – keep the solution out of reach from pets, as on digestion it can lead to inflammation to them.
Lemon eucalyptus oil is another great repellent to treat ants. Use the cotton balls to dip in the oil and place these on the infected area to repel the ant problem.
Neem is the first choice of a gardener to treat aphides and ants in the plant. You can either directly spray the plant with neem oil or dilute neem oil with a few drops of liquid soap and water to make the solution.
Boric powder/acid
Boric powder is a kind of acid that work on killing ants. Boric acid sticks to ants and erode their outer shell. You need to be careful while using the boric powder. Boric acid can be used directly but it can be messy, and it will more effective if the solution is made using boric powder.
Add ½ teaspoon of boric acid, 8 teaspoons of sugar, and 1 cup of water to make the solution.
Stir the solution until the sugar is completely dissolved. Use the cotton balls dipped in this solution and place them on the infected area to repel the ants’ problem.
Wash your hand properly afterward.
In this solution, sugar will work as a trap and attract the ants toward the bait, and boric powder will eliminate them.
Organic pesticides
